An Envelope and some Stardust.

\'Envelope\' by Kat Johnston

Ok, again I apologize… way too much time between postings for what was meant to be a ‘one a day’ type thing. That said, day to day life can get a litte bothersome!

Today, I watched Stardust… I’ve read the book - I did a long time ago, have many times and when the movie came out, I read it again… but it has taken until now for me to actually get it out on dvd and watch the damn thing. As with most ‘book to movie’ transitions, I found it easiest to sit back and just pretend that I hadn’t read the book at all. Just makes the experience oh so much nicer *grin*.

Anyhow, how does that fit in to the grand big scheme of things? It doesn’t, really… save for the fact that I did these scribbles after watching that movie. For what it is worth, I am terrified of profile faces… um… drawing them, it is… otherwise that really would be an interesting phobia to add to the growing list of phobias that currently exist. Anyhow… this is the random sketching for today: now lets see if I can remain motivated enough to give you something to look at tomorrow! (sisters arrive, yay!)

Some Progress.

\'Rat Painting in Progress\' by Kat Johnston

Not a huge amount of progress, but some: and the first chance for anyone out there in internet world to see a slightly larger view of the painting I am working on. Aren’t you lucky?

Ok, I’m not actually sure which direction I am going with in this work…. I think it is going to be one of those ‘progress as it is painted’ type things… I don’t generally like to show things in progress like this, as opposed to just showing a final work… but I suppose it is time to try to get out of that habit and perhaps throw out some of the interrim steps, in the name of… I don’t know… something different? *laughs*

More to come!

A Rat Painting in Progress.

\

Time to actually do some painting… something that I have somewhat neglected recently, until my loving husband and turned around to give me a bit of a gentle nudge in the ‘I want to see you painting again’ direction. So here starts a new piece… I know that there are many that I should go back and actually finish… some of which I actually -want- to finish… but, they are just going to have to wait for the moment as I re-hone my skills once more on this wonderful little rattie.

Not really all that much to see yet - white pencil on black canvas, at this point… I’ve come to realize that I am rather loving starting to work from a black base, and building up from there… the canvas is actually a fair amount larger than the tiny snippet you see there, but this is the most detailed section sketched out at this point… so you get to see this portion!

More to come when there is more done. That’s all for today!

Adopt Me.

\'Adopt Me\' by Kat Johnston

I’m not sure if this quite qualifies for a cat… it was actually started out with something of a bunny in mind when I did the shape of the face to begin with… buuuut… it kinda morphed from there. So… kitty… or a creature masquerading as a kitty even though it really isn’t… perhaps a changling, or an enchanted prince who forever will go ‘mew’ until a princess strokes his fur the wrong way seven times and lays a kiss upon his nose… curses are sometimes notoriously hard to break. And with a world-wide shortage of easily available princesses, this enchanted gentleman may be in this predicament for some time yet.

Just a Wanderer.

\'Just a Wanderer\' by Kat Johnston

There really isn’t much of an explanation to go here… I have been neglectful of doing many things on paper recently, or really much of anything other than another pet project… so… trying to get back into the swing of things.

A quick sketch of a random girl… I think she’s a wanderer… never really belonging to one place in particular… or one person. Destined to roam… until she finds that one place that is truly hers to own.
