Sisters of Chance.

Some little sketches I did last night during my media writing class - which was incredibly fun, if you want my honest opinion! I must admit, when I signed up to a class called ‘media writing’, I was expecting to write press releases… not create storylines for shows and films… including such fun things as magicians murdering a taxidermiest as part of his show in an act of revenge because the hapless man shot and stuffed the magician’s prize bear Bobo when he broke free and went ambling about in the woods… how’s that for a run-on sentence? In any case… there was quite some fun to be had. I want credit if CSI or Law and Order turns that into an episode, by the way!

Ok, onto something about the actual sketch… just playing with portraits again - they’re sisters of chance, drawn together only by the fact that they all happen to have been created on the same little snippet of paper. Despite the little problems, and errors, and such (that often occur when you are drawing something completely in a medium that can’t be erased… and has a tendency to leak just when you don’t want it to) I don’t mind these little girlies. I’ve decided that they do just have to have long necks… its the way it is. So I have spoken, and thus it shall be done! *laughs*

Long Day.

Having lectures in the evenings makes the day seem very long - work on classwork and other such things during the day, all whilst keeping an eye on the clock for it to tick over to that time that you have to get going… sit down at 5pm and somehow have your brain struggle through the process of absorbing information and theories for three hours, come home, find something to eat, and then go ‘damn… What am I going to do for that assignment? Do I actually remember a word they said in class?’. The day is very long, when there is a class in the evening.

I guess I broke my habit, the one that has been forming recently of drawing faces without faces during my classes. This was the first image drawn of the evening (the second being the picture in the previous post, the others I won’t bother throwing up), drawn during my marketing tutorial - and what a face she has indeed. I am in love with the girl… probably because of the fact that she looks how I was feeling right then and there. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind class, it is just something that one doesn’t necessarily want to deal with as the day draws to a close - when you wish you could be at home, greeting your husband as he walks in the door, pouncing on him, and making him snuggle you for a few hours… with some dinner thrown in there at some point too.

Today is set to be another long day… I have a class on media writing tonight, but luckily that only goes until 7pm, rather than the 8pm finish of my other two classes.

The girl’s name, by the way, is Alison. She’s somewhat disenchanted, wry, has a cutting wit and a perchant towards sarcasm. She has an excellent sense of humour and a fondness for cheese. Particularly cheese with a bit of a bite to it. Although she might come across as a bit of a pessimist, she considers herself a realist. Whilst people generally only see the slightly more negative outlook, she has a far brighter opinion on life than most generally suspect. People often judge quickly, but with her, that is a mistake. It takes a while to get to know this one, because she isn’t going to make it easy for you or lay everything out from the start.

She believes that she is smarter than most people - experience has taught her that she’s actually probably right. She finds that a rather scary thought indeed. She’s one of those girls that people think are ‘mature for their age’, but she’s happy to admit that she doesn’t know it all… at least to herself, if not to anyone else.

She has a cat called Chester.

Wild Panther Girl.

This is a picture drawn on request of a friend of mine, who asked me to draw what I thought of when I think of her. There are many things, naturally… but this was the first to come to mind, I guess. Not drawn with a particular structure in mind, just started with the feather, and moved on from there, letting the picture grow organically. So, Kyro, this picture is for you. Hopefully you like it!

Alfred.

This is Alfred. Alfred is a tree.

Faceless Faces.

Mmmm… marketing. A facinating subject, further enhanced by the sketching of faceless faces during the course of a class. Shh, don’t tell my lecturer.

For some odd reason, these little guys appeal to me. They’re cute and cuddley… adorable even. Ok, perhaps not, but that is how much I am loving them at the moment… there is something just wonderful about simplicity, about, just, nothing much in particular - a few scribbled line to describe something that can be roughly thought of as a head, or the start of a figure…

I find it weird, that for me, just a thirty second sketch (the lot of them took more than that, but the individual ones were done incredibly quickly) suggests so much. I’m not sure if it is because I’m the one drawing them, that I get some special insight… get to see these little glimmers of mischevious personality poking through at the edges that others don’t… but to me they are just a joy to draw. These little guys are just so full of fun. So, you all enjoy them… I have to go and give my husband a noogie.

Just Another Profile Shot.

Just another profile picture…

I have to say, it is kinda odd, throwing up pictures of things that I am just not particularly good at drawing… but… well… I’m sure it makes sense somewhere. I will put in as somewhat of a disclaimer that pictures like this are done incredibly quickly… and in cases like this, done entirely without things like guide-lines, pre-sketching, roughing out…

Its just a case of playing around and trying things, really - and they don’t always work out… this picture isn’t something I’d ever want to frame and keep forever, by any account. In fact, I wouldn’t generally show this to anything other than the inside of my sketchbook… it just isn’t a great picture. But its getting a mention on here anyway… I wonder why?

Hickory Dickory Dock (is the moon really made from green cheese?).

See? I am a good girl occasionally… two whole pictures in one night. Lucky you, wonderful viewers.

For some reason I wanted to do a clock towery type of thing last night that wan’t quite as straight as a regular tower might generally be… the rest just grew from that. I have no idea, really, why there is a solitary clock-tower, sitting in a field, pointing at just a little after two in the supposed morn… Perhaps that is the best time for little ratties (even if he should be, by all accounts a rather large mouse) to perch and watch the moon whilst thinking of what he might achieve, if only he could stretch just that little further to take a bite of the fabled cheese that seemingly dangles just out of reach.

Tentacle Time

Not the greatest sketch in the world, but I feel that I’d best throw at least -something- up here to show that I’ve been doing something… As I’ve said before, I hate profiles… its far from perfect, but I can deal with that… at least each kinda-not-quite-right gets closer to the kinda-getting-closer-to-being-quite-right, the way it should be.

It was just a picture of the head to begin with… I’m not quite sure what compelled me to go ‘this image can only be best completed with the addition of a nice, juicy tentacle’, but I have to say, I think it makes it work *big grin*.

A New Sketch Book.

\'Little Owl\' by Kat Johnston

Ok, so we have another image up, finally! This one is a little owl… drawn then inked in… first pages of new sketch books are always so intimidating - so much expectation… so, this little guy got to feature. Isn’t he lucky? Not much else to add today - will post more later, perhaps *smile*
