Sketch: Broth… Heaven’s healing food.

Kat Johnston Sketch: Broth... it is the most wonderful food on the planet. Welll.... it's in the top 10, at the very least.

Broth: a healing, warming food unlike any other. I love broth so incredibly much, especially if it comes with a rich, flavourful base. The reason that I drew broth today, of all things, is because I had it for my lunch!

I was sitting at my keyboard, after doing my blog-reading for the day, wondering, as I often do, whether there is anything actually edible in the kitchen… when I was hit with a brilliant idea. I plodded upstairs, peeking my nose into the pantry, rustling around for the thing that had caught my delicious mouth-watering inducing imagination: soup. Noodle soup. Or more correctly noodles in broth.

There, hidden under the cous cous and tucked behind a single packet of satay microwave rice rested my target – a packet of Trident brand laksa soup with those particularly tasty square noodles that curl into little tubes when they’re plunged into boiling water and cooked for a short amount of time.

With the broth prepared, the seasoning added, the little sashet of flavoured oil stirred to blend it all together, I consumed that bowl of broth with the kind of relish generally reserved for a succulent cut of prime steak after having to subsist on packet noodles for weeks at a stretch. I’m not sure that there is anything more healing, more warming, more wonderful, than warm broth on a cooling day.

Sketch: 800 spam messages, and counting.

Kat Johnston Sketch: just another little face... I like drawing faces.

I feel special. My spam filter has now caught a massive 800 spam comments. That means that at the very least, the spammers like my site!

Anyhow, here is a little sketch for today… just something simple I threw together after I had dinner. Sorry again for the short post – I’m feeling rather exhausted!

Sketch: I’m just tired.

Kat Johnston: I'm feeling tired... I really am.

I’m going to make this a fairly short post today… I’m tired. This is a picture to state that… yes, very, very literal I know. But some days, you just can’t get a whole heap of inspiration when you’re lusting after some sleep on your very favourite pillow.

That is all.

Sanu: Dark Unicorns.

Sanu stuff: My delicious dark unicorn is in store now, with a whole heap of options. Silks sold separately!

Its actually been a few days since I put these up in store, but I have been rather neglectful when it has come to posting things up here over the past few days. As always, life is busy – its just one thing after the next. Which is fairly good, when you actually think about it. It’s when things stop that things are a little screwy.

Phew! Time for bed!

Painting: Lookie lookie! A turlelephant!

Kat Johnston Painting: Its a turlelephant: an elephant and a turtle spliced into one incredible creature.

I finally got a picture of it! A little while ago, some good friends of mine moved into a new house – with that, it was entirely necessary to give them a moving-in gift… especially since they were putting on a fantastic bbq to celebrate. Dimity had asked me on a couple of occasions that she wanted me to draw a turlelephant for her – I took it a step further and painted it.

So, to address the question ‘What is a turlelephant?’ – its a turtle spliced with an elephant. A divine combination of the two, probably created by a delightfully mad scientist with the kind of laboratory which wouldn’t look out of place with a sheet-covered bench in the approximate shape of Frankenstein tucked away in one dusty corner. Needless to say, an Igor wouldn’t hurt in there either.

Perhaps the intended result was something fearsome, a horrorific monstrosity straight out of something in a Hieronymus Bosch painting. Instead… lets face it… this creature was destined for cuteness. Perhaps he won over the heart of the formerly evil and/or mad scientist and turned him into a big ole bundle of love, sunshine, rainbows and happiness. Oh, and they all lived happily ever after. The end!
