Sketch: A lucky kitty catfish.

Kat Johnston Sketch: A lucky kitty catfish... super kawaii!

Today’s picture was a request! I was toying around with things in Second Life when I decided that I should ask a group I frequent what I should draw today, since I had no preconceived ideas… the response?

“Koiii!”

“kawaii!”

“draw a koi with big eyes and a school girl skirt!”

“Nuuu it needs to be a cutesy koi… Like one that you’d catch at your store.”

Soooo, I came up with this little fish.

The group I was chatting in is called the Lucky Kitty Crew – a group (and associated blog) that called out Midnight Mania boards, Lucky Chair letters, notifies of freebies and so forth. Beyond that, however, it is also just a great place to hang out and have a chat, get some inspiration and generally chill. Therefore… I drew a lucky kitty catfish!

I hope you enjoy it, kitties!

Sketch and Sanu: Masks… and Spring.

Kat Johnston Sketch: All masked up... but where to go? I'm not sure that a masquerade ball is an every-day occurance.

Phew! It has been a rather long day, really… running around, buying obscure Japanese and other Asian candy, finding melon mochi, and getting scolded for (yet again) buying something where the package doesn’t explicitly state what I’ll find inside (it had grapes on the packaging, somewhere… surely whatever is inside is somewhat grape flavoured, one would hope). The hubby has come up with this silly rule that I’m not meant to buy something when I don’t actually know what it is.

I, for one, think it makes life interesting.

Ok, so you might end up throwing away bits and pieces. Basil Seed Drink, for example, is not for everyone (it said on the package what it was, so I was allowed to get it… I still haven’t gotten up the courage to try it though). Isn’t that the point though? You try something… you see how it is… and even if you throw it away, you’re that much more experienced because of it.

At the very least, you have a great story to tell somebody in how absolutely weird and not-so-wonderful this random food item was. Worth the investment? Provided you’re not blowing a fortune on food whose packages can only be interpreted in another language… I think so.

Sanu in Second Life: As if a summer skybox wasn't enough... here's one to celebrate Spring. It even comes with flowers, because we all know that flowers are fun!

And now for the Sanu update! I thought that there was really no point in doing two separate posts, so I’m rolling them both into one today.

This is my latest skybox – a Spring themed piece designed to match nicely to the Summer Daydreams Skybox I released a while back. You know that I’m going to have to do Autumn and Winter now that I’ve done both a Spring and a Summer – it just makes sense! That may have to wait for another day though.

That’s all for today!

Sanu In SL: Crayons are made for fun.

Kat Johnston as Sanu: Crayons! You shouldn't stick them up your nose, and any drawing is given a 20% bonus cute factor just by using them. In short... they're awesome.

Crayons… they’re cute, they’re quirky, and any drawing is instantly made a trillion times cuter and comes with added whimsy when drawn with the humble crayon. These are no ordinary crayons though… when someone gives one a click, it gives them an especially cute hand-drawn picture! Awww… can anyone say adorable? There’s twelve colours to collect!

To name them, I jumped into my Sanu system group (which is made of much awesome and win when I need some ideas, by the way) and asked them for some suggestions! Soooo, all of the names have been offered by my very own groupies.

Don’t you love the names of crayons? I had to look up some of the current crayon colour names (just because they’re so awesome), and you’ve just got to love the imagination-evoking titles that are given… like ‘Razzle Dazzle Rose’, ‘Mountain Meadow’ or ‘Tumbleweed’. But of course, not everyone wants those cookie-cutter politically correct PG rated names, do they? Of course not. Rejected crayon colour names are so enticing that someone’s even formed a Facebook group to celebrate how awesome they are.

Anyhow, all this talk about crayons makes me seriously want to go out and buy a set right now… and if it weren’t after 6pm on a Saturday night, I think I would actually do so. I might have to wait for Monday! Is anyone interested in seeing me scribble with some crayons?

Kat Johnston Sketch - Oh holy maiden, to grace my page so sweetly...

Ahhh, another random scribble-girl. Scribble girls are fun, don’t you think?

Ok… I’ll be honest… she wasn’t entirely random. If she were entirely random, I’m not sure what would have come out!

I actually intended her to be a bit more simplistic than she is as you can see her now – but she simply demanded that my pen keep scribbling away until she was quite satisfied indeed. I’ve even kept a larger copy of her aside in case she wants me to do more with her now that she’s been sucked inside of my computer… I have a feeling that she may well want me to continue her for a little longer.

She did remind me of something though, as I scribbled her down against my page… she reminded me that I should really me drawing her in an actual sketchbook. It isn’t that I don’t want to draw in my sketchbooks – I’ve simply been so decidedly lazy that I forget to fetch it out and dust it off to be drawn in again.

Anyhow… a rather short post for today. There is absolutely nothing that springs to mind that would be amusing, interesting, or even mildly stimulating to keep you reading any longer!

Sketch: Mmmm, cupcakes… with fondant!

Kat Johnston Sketch: Mmmm... cuppies...

First off, a sketch. I think we’ve all had enough of seeing things other than sketches here, don’t you? Good? Good. This site was made to keep me sketching, and obviously I’ve been neglecting that, so it is time to get things back on track.

So that’s that.

Kat Johnston Baking: chocolate cupcakes with delicious whipped buttercream and marshmallow fondant. The top one is also decorated with cachous!

And this is more baking!

Ok, so posting a sketch doesn’t negate the need to show you how absolutely divinely delicious my cupcakes turned out. They’re chocolate cupcakes, and the batter was further enriched with some gorgeous white chocolate, just to give it that little extra kick. Then they were decorated with freshly whipped buttercream and delicious marshmallow fondant. I think I’m getting a bit better with my piping even!

Kat Johnston Baking: More cupcakes! This time they're carrot cupcakes, with buttercream and sprinkles (or hundreds and thousands, as they are also known)

And these ones needed no piping at all… just slather on the buttercream and liberally apply the hundreds and thousands. They’re carrot cupcakes, in case you were wondering.

Annnnnnd that is all!

If you’d like to see more of the cupcake photos, you can find them on my Flickr Baking/Cooking set.

Ok… time for another cupcake… *trundles off to the kitchen*
