Sanu in SL and Photography: Tastes of Summer.

Kat Johnston Photography: A photograph of plump, juicy strawberries, with one dipped in home-made white chocolate ganache.

Let’s start with a nice little photo I took last night! I really need to get a better camera, better lighting and some reflectors if I plan on doing this all that often – but I still think they turned out pretty great. For a post-baking snack I had some plump, juicy strawberries dipped in some left-over white chocolate ganache which I had made up to top some very tasty cupcakes.

If you’d like a recipe for the ganache, I’ve posted one with this picture on flickr. Ganache is really rather simple to make, is very versatile and tends to impress, too! You can also find the rest of the strawberry pictures there in the set ‘sweet treats’!

Sanu in Second Life: A peapod lounge, bringing together the awesomeness that is peas and lounging!

And here’s the Sanu update for today. There’s actually three colours of the peapod lounges available – all nice, fresh shades of green. This lounge has been in the works for a little while, actually – they were built soon after the yummy peapods were made. I just had to wait a little while to get the perfect system for adding the animations.

Rather than having to rely on pose-balls, these lounges use low-lag scripts which have a menu, allowing anyone who sits on it to adjust their position perfectly using movements in all directions and rotation where needed. That means that it can fit almost any avatar every time! Certainly an improvement on needing to have the owner around to adjust it for you if needed, don’t you think?

Sketch: A little vampeer. Not vampire, vampeer!

Kat Johnston Sketch: A little vampeer - not a vampire, a vampeer!

Today’s sketch is somewhat of a sneak peek at something that I am cooking up… sorta. It might take a little while longer until the finished product is ready!

I am trying to get into the habit of creating more ‘finished’ work. I love sketches – adore them to bits… I think that there is a wonderful immediacy, sense of movement and style that comes with swift pen-strokes, guide marks and all the little errors that go into making a picture. I believe it to be an art of its own. That said, I’ve neglected doing anything really ‘finished’ for quite a while.

I think, in part, it has to do with the fact that I love sketching – and I also love the finishedness (that totally isn’t a word) that comes with completing a truly great sketch. You know, at that point, that the sketch is the best it is going to be. Perhaps it could be further enhanced by doing something derivative from it, but the reality is that putting it into any other form will change it.

For today though, I am going about it differently. The idea came first, the internal visualization came second, the sketches were actually only a nutting out of the final product because I work better with a good solid base (it lets me sort out some of the bigger problems ahead of time and sort out the general foundation of the picture) than starting from scratch trying to work immediately on the vectors.

I think that going into the sketches knowing that they are really only a rough guide for another work makes it easier to detach myself from them. When I sketch to produce a… well… ‘finished sketch’ it is different from when I am sketching to produce something else. I don’t know exactly what it is that defines that difference though – perhaps a measure of investment, or an understanding of the clear potential it has as a product in another form. Either way… hopefully the finished pictures for which this sketch was a quick study for will be up in a few days.

Sketch: A cute little chickie-bird.

Kat Johnston Art: There are a lot of adorable things in this world. It just so happens that cute little chicks are one of those things.

I had to sketch some chicks for a little design I was working on, and this was one of the ones that I didn’t actually go ahead and use.

Can you believe it? He’s so darn cute even I can’t believe that I didn’t use this one… but hey, I’m sure I can come up with something for him later. I might post the design I did actually come up with at another time, but for now I am still putting final touches on it. It’s a picture inspired by one of my darling husband’s recent (and not so recent, really) catchphrases.

I think the reason I didn’t actually use this little guy is because one of the others was significantly more chirpy (pun intended). This little chick seems somewhat more… hmmm… sad, I guess. Either way, I still love him to bits!

Sanu in SL: Yummy peapods, summer flats, and some other cute things!

Sanu in Second Life: Tasty, delicious, yummy peapods! I absolutely love fresh peas, don't you?

It’s a day for a Sanu update, because I’ve been neglect in anything on this blog for a couple of weeks due to my tonsillitis and flu. Urgh… being sick just sucks.

First up, as you can see above, are some yummy little peapods!

Sanu in Second Life: Nothing screams summer fun like some cute flats in pastel shades, don't you think?

Next up… some fun summer flats. It is actually winter here in Australia, but in the states everything is sun and sand at the height of Summer! Therefore, I just had to do some summery releases.

Sanu in Second Life: Who can stop at just one pair of flats? Are you rediculous? Here's some more, with flowers!

Annnnd I couldn’t just stop at one style.

Sanu in Second Life: Actually... I couldn't even stop at two styles of these cute, summery shoes. They're just so cute and fun!

I couldn’t even stop at two. I mean, who can say no to cute summer footwear? A girl can never have enough shoes in Second Life.

Sanu in Second Life: A second series of tiny butterflies... because you can never have too many butterflies at stunningly small proportions!

Moving on, I had to do up a second series of tiny butterflies. Fun colours, a variety of attachment points, and just as cute as can be, the second series are a great addition to the first. Each series comes with fifteen butterflies, so there are now thirty that can be collected!

Sanu in Second Life: And for the final Sanu update today: Tiny dragonflies. I felt I just had to extend my tiny insects range!

For the final Sanu product update for today: tiny dragonflies. I think I want to go through and do up a whole range of tiny insects. I know a lot of people think that they are gross, but at the very least, butterflies and dragonflies are a sure favourite with a variety of people. I’m thinking that ladybugs might be next, or even (although I realize they are not insects) snails. I’ll just have to see how I am inspired when the time comes!

That’s all for the Sanu update today – some of these items are not yet at the mainstore, but are at Summer Bazaar. They’ll all be appearing at the mainstore within a couple of days, however.

Digital: I’m siiiiiick… and I’m not happy about it.

Kat Johnston Cartoon: I will admit, I am feeling rather sore and sorry for myself right now... I'm sick with a headache and a sore-throat.

Today’s is going to be a very short post… I’m feeling horridly ill and even sitting in front of the computer is taking it out of me.

As a result, this image is another of Lolli, who you can see a couple of posts down… and I think she’s reflecting my condition quite well. If I didn’t have to sit here for longer, I’d put a bandage on her head and a thermometer between her fangs.
