A guest spot!

Kat Johnston - nope. I didn't draw this. This is drawn by my exceedingly talented and awesome sister. See? Brilliance runs in the family!

This picture… is not mine *gasp*. Today, I’m doing a guest spot to feature one of my incredibly brilliant and overly talented sisters! I would like to think that I inspired her to get into drawing… but the likelihood is that she just got into it herself. No harm in me taking credit for how great she is though, is there? Good. That’s settled.

My sisters have come to stay with me over their holidays so that they can get away from home for a bit and overdose on gummy bears, candy-bracelets and anything sugary they can salvage from the kitchen or, if necessary, the local supermarket. I suppose I should really be that ‘good big sister’ and feed them nice, healthy things (like lettuce… mmmm, lettuce), but if the girls want sugar they want sugar. What can I say? I’d be a horrible parent. This is why I don’t breed.

Anyhow, back to the arty type stuff. I pounced on the girl today and accosted her for a picture to throw up on the site. She pointed me towards her DeviantArt page. She hadn’t even told me she had one! Silly bunny… Anyhow, that aside, this picture is named ‘LMAO’ and here is her own little write-up of this picture:

Likes: Haruto (my other imaginary friend), Japanese food, art and music.
Dislikes: Everything other that what’s in the ‘like’ section.

Jake is not easily amused.

OK, this is Jake – one of two of my imaginary friends.

Talented little mite, isn’t she?

What’s the Buzz? (please make the puns stop…)

Kat Johnston Sketch - ok, we've got to stop with the flies, don't we? The girl is wearing fly goggles for Pete's sake! I'm not sure if the psyche's look kindly on such behavior...

Sorry for the pun. Its a compulsion. I don’t want for such things to happen, but its entirely beyond my control. I know its lame, but I can’t help it that despite the fact that they are about the most sigh-worthy jokes in history, I am still amused by them.

Not much really to say about this picture, save for the fact that I like her. I know, I know, ‘It is getting beyond a joke – stop it with the flies already!’ I hear you cry. If it is any consolation, it didn’t start out that way – I was going to draw a girl like any other… well… not quite any other, but you get the picture.

I find that when I sketch, if something is telling you one thing, even when what you originally wanted was something different, its time to run with it and see where it leads you. Sketches like these take minutes, not days. They’re not meant to rival the Sistine Chapel, they’re just quick little snippets of thought that run skittering across my brain saying ‘draw me, draw me!’ Some just happen to scream out a little louder than others at times. Its better just to listen, really, and go with the flow.

They even start jostling some days, getting more than a little pushy. I guess it can get to being pretty stiff competition up there when I have a million other things on my mind. Especially when an ingenious plan including a ferret, a beach-ball and two pounds of English cheddar cheese is your competition for upper-brain activity.

Ah well… what can I say? Its pointless to resist it. ‘Batty girl with fly goggles’ wins the brain-lottery this evening. Her prize? International exposure on the internets, a ‘buzz-ity-buzz’ caption and an ingenious plan of her very own involving a ferret, a beach ball and two pounds of delicious English cheddar… who said psychosis can’t be fun?

Today’s sketch is a little topsy-turvy.

Kat Johnston Sketch - Upside down? Who's odd idea was that for a joke? I feel like Blackboard should be here saying 'hurry up, hurry up...'

Today’s little sketch is… upside-down? Not my fault, I swear! I drew the eyes and they just came out that way. I was listening to music from Moulin Rouge, and a (seemingly) random selection of classic French tunes as I was drawing this little lady. I don’t know why I feel the need to mention that, but I think it might be significant somehow.

You know… I love my hubby, I really do. But he can be an evil man at times… I think that is one of the reasons I do love him so incredibly much.

We went shopping yesterday, for a few new shirts for him. I was able to pick up a couple of hooded tops for myself while we were at it – one incredibly over-sized, incredibly comfy olive-coloured one for lounging around the house in… and one nicely-fitted black creation that has a cute little set of buttons to one side of the collar, so that it can be worn with a high collar or v-neck. I put the black one on again as soon as I got home to show off to my loving spouse, since he didn’t get to see it on me in the shop.

I threw it on with a long black skirt, as the one I was wearing didn’t show it off quite to best effect. I plonked down the stairs and did a twirl for him… to which he said ‘Pull up the hood for me?’. I obediently pulled up the hood for him, so that he could see what it looked like – to which he responded ‘now all you need is an apple…’

Horrid man. Do I look as if I go around poisoning young princesses who board with miner dwarves in the middle of enchanted forests? I think not! I’d make sure the job got done right the first time round…

Fruity.

Kat Johnston - 'Stalking me' actually has nothing to do with this picture...

The line up the top of this one actually has nothing to do with this actual little sketch… it was two incredibly different thoughts on the same page. These two came about because I saw an interesting crease in one of the business shirts hanging to dry – this was drawn on a corner of my page soon after. Just for fun, I’ve included the other picture after the cut.

Times are a’changin’.

Kat Johnston - Umm.. there appears to be a bird on my head. And he's wearing a top-hat.

Ok, I’m doing my last little bits of tweaking on the new location for this blog and it should be up and running by this time tomorrow. Not long now! So… until then… I would reccommend holding your comments until I’m done with the new site! It will be bigger, better, sexier, and more importantly, I’ve custom-styled it myself.

As for today’s picture, its actually influenced by my new banner picture. I don’t draw the ‘long’ eyes like that all that often. Sure is fun though. Ok, I am off to do my last little bits and pieces of tweaking. I’ll post an announcement when the new and improved site is up and running!
