Sketch/Announcement: Inspired by Jenny, but definately not Jenny.

Kat Johnston Sketch: Inspired (somewhat) by my Jenny pictures. Look through the categories if you don't get what I mean!

A quick and early sketch today! I have to go in for my ultrasound later, and have various other annoying things to get done until then, so I thought I’d get this out of the way early if I could.

The picture today is somewhat inspired by Jenny. If you have no idea who or what Jenny is, check out the category links - there’s one called Jenny there. I love the original Jenny to bits, and to be honest, I’m not entirely sure if I could ever properly turn her into a ‘regular’ person. It just doesn’t really work like that.

On another note, I’d like to point out something incredible and fantastic! I’ve now been writing on this blog for over a year. I didn’t actually think about it until last night, but when I did… oh my! I had to race back to the computer to click on the archives for May 2008 to see when the exact date actually was. I actually have an odd sense of accomplishment over all this. There’s 270 posts (or will be, when this one is included), which means that I post approximately two days outta three, or there-abouts… that’s not too bad if you ask me!

For something started on little more than a whim, then continued on under the banner of ’study’, I think the site has gone incredibly well so far. Yes, there are still some things I need to do - finish updating the gallery, finally get around to sorting out the banner for good (the composition as it is currently isn’t perfectly ideal, but with a bit of work, could be much much better), and perhaps a few other things… but it is good. It has certainly been fulfilling its primary purpose: keeping me motivated to do what I know I love… sketching. If people see it, so much more the bonus.

So, celebrations all around, don’t you think? Milestone accomplished.

Jenny makes another appearance.

Kat Johnston sketch - Another Jenny, and I've even done the whole body... not sure if it is the final body she's going to get, but it looks good for now.

I’ve had this one in the sketchbook for over a week now, just never got around to actually scanning it in - and since I am working on a larger sketch at the moment, I thought I’d throw up this one to fill in the gap for today. For those who are seeing Jenny for the first time today, try checking out the ‘Jenny’ category to get an idea of her progression.

Anyhow, stay tuned for something more substantial either later tonight or tomorrow. I’ve been busy working on a slightly more detailed sketch and cursing the fact that I need a better desk, so I’ll post the results of that little experiment when I’m done.

So far, I’ve been having fun with it save for one, rather annoying thing. The pen I have started drawing it with is faltering. Now for me, this is not a good thing… because not all pens are created equal and the pen I am using is not a generic bic or something. If it were, I could just pick up another generic bic, and continue with a nice, fresh pen. Since I don’t have a refil for this pen, nor another pen exactly the same, I have to continue with using this one. Argh!

Ah well… it is my own fault. I have been using that pen to death recently, and it is about time it falters. I think it is actually a combination of the pen and the type of paper I’m using. Well, I’d better get back to it!

Just a little Dotty Today.

Kat Johnston Sketch - Jenny Again! Just a little dotty today... and shorter pig-tails too.

Another quick one today… and another Jenny! I really should expand into showing her whole body one day, or at least put her in a different pose occasionally… but up until now (and still now) I just love the nice little simplicity of leaving her as she is. Jenny rocks. If you want to see something interesting, try having a click on the ‘Jenny’ category to see how she’s looked before, and how she’s changed here and there… her head is certainly starting to even out in a slightly more square shape than it started out, and I think she’s gotten a little slimmer *laughs*. I think I’ll find it interesting to click on that one after Jenny has featured a few more times… see if she normalizes into a more ’set’ form.

This piccie was drawn as I was waiting to have my little one on one interview with my lecturer to get an assignment back (procedure for that class, not a special case for me). The interviews were running an hour late. Could not believe how long it was taking. Had to make use of the time somehow, I suppose!

I currently have two little sketchbooks in my bag to take around wherever I go. They don’t actually get pulled out while out-and-about all that much, if just running errands or things of that nature. Waiting for people to come out of a lecture theature, getting growingly annoyed at someone who is impulsively tapping the wall and lamenting the fact that you actually half-jogged your way to get to the appointment on time only to be left waiting an hour later, though… they can come in handy.

Jenny is Somewhat Perplexed.

Kat Johnston - Jenny is somewhat perplexed today... I'm not 100% sure she agrees with the whole 'pink' thing.

Hmm… Ok, I think Jenny has made it to the regular characters list too. Three times, and she gets a category of her own, methinks! I’m actually not quite sure exactly what she is perplexed about… perhaps it is the fact that she is drawn on pink paper today? Who knows.

When I draw characters, often or not they are just one-time ‘this is what came into my head’ type drawings… sometimes, there are a few that get repeated. Jenny is actually somewhat of an evolution of another character I draw rather regularly, which hasn’t been featured up here on the website. Perhaps I will throw her up another day. There seems to be a certain point, I think, where my little characters go from ‘once or twice’ to ‘will be drawn fairly often’, and Jenny has tipped from one to the other. I must admit, I wasn’t entirely expecting her to - when I drew the first, I was simply venting frustration at Poe, my silly computer for not being able to automatically do what I envision in my head (sorry Poe… I don’t mean it, really I don’t). I’m quite happily surprised that Jenny has turned into a little more for me. She’s an awesome gal.

I’m going to toss out another interesting little link today, because I’d like to share with you some of the little gems that I stumble across when navigating the wonderful content people create and put online. Today’s featured link: Robot Comix. Two squares of graph paper, some dots and lines, and the cutest little robot appears alongside a few words of wisdom.

I’ve popped in a new ‘Interesting Links’ category so that these links are easy to find in the future, too. Don’t you just hate it when you find a great page, lose the link, then have to wade through a trillion posts just to find the right one to get it again? Well… I do. So there *wink*. Let me know what you think!

Jenny is Suitably Impressed.

Kat Johnston - Nothing makes a girl happy like a rat infestation and a top-hat.

A second picture post for today, to celebrate the fact that I just checked, and www.katjohnston.com comes first for a search for (you guessed it) the search term ‘Kat Johnston’! Considering that the page has only been live for a grand total of 4 days, I think that is pretty good. In proper celebratory style, I enjoyed a small bowl of peppermint choc-chip ice-cream. It was most delicious.

Jenny is making a reappearance, this time with her bevy of rattus rattus to keep her company. She’s much more cheerful this time, as you may note. The girl has a fierce temper, but she does seem to love it when things go right too.

Jenny is not impressed.

Kat Johnston - Jenny Rocks. Gotta love a girl with Attitude.

This is Jenny. Jenny is not a happy camper.
