About Sanu

While studying towards my Bachelor of Creative Industries (visual arts), I attended a subject pertaining to new media technologies. Although it was not my first exposure to Second Life, it was probably the first meaningful look at it in an academic sense. With a deep sense of curiousity, I wanted to explore it further with regards to the implications of intellectual property rights and copyright issues as they pertained to user-led virtual environments.

Thus, I dusted off a character I created on there years ago, and gave Second Life another shot, in order to research my chosen topic for my final assignment. Sanura Sakai is the Second Life me. Reborn through the desire to research and learn first-hand somewhat more about this user-based, user-led world, she stuck around once the assignment was over.

For a long time, my Second Life character did what most Second Life characters do – shop, camp, chat, progressing into building when either need or desire arose. I found Second Life to be an enjoyable creative outlet, as my skill in building progressed. I was able to realize visions for items in Second Life that I had neither the technical capability nor materials to be able to do so in the real world.

It wasn’t until October of 2008 that I finally made the move into forming a business with which to sell the goods I’d been creating. Until then, the things I made were given as gifts, or simply kept for my own purposes. Sanu was born with just one item: the Inspired Choker.

Since then, Sanu has grown. No longer just focusing on a narrow range of items, it offers intricate jewelry from chokers through to monocles, enticing virtual food, novelty items and more. It holds regular hunts, boasts a flickr group of fans who enjoy Sanu products, and a store group in Second Life that exceeds 600 members.

If you haven’t before, now is the time to check out Second Life, and check out my store. Are you interested in visiting Sanu?
