Sketch: Proof that ice-cream does grow on trees.

Kat Johnston - Look! Ice-cream does grow on trees. Or at least grows on tendrilly plant thingies, anyway.

Another day, another little something for the site! Today a sketch – I’ve been a little lazy with Second Life today. That said, if you’re in a creative mood today, I suggest you head over to my Sanu flickr account and name the ice-cream. Go onnnnn… they’re full of ice-creamery goodness!

In honor of thinking about ice-cream all day, I would like to posit that ice-cream does really grow on trees. At the very least, it does when I says it does. Money does too, so long as the boundaries between reality and my imagination are well and truly blurred, and there is no need for me to actually spend said money from said money trees. After all, lets face it – nobody wants rotting leaves in their cash register. Its just messy.

Actually, when you think about it, if money did grow on trees and the money grown on said trees behaved as leaves do, I think it would be a rather interesting situation indeed. Would the seeds of a money tree be coinage? Would there be different types of trees for each of the denominations, or would it simply be a case of seed and flower or leaf development?

Eg, does a money tree start off planted with a 1c coin (or 5c here in Australia, since we don’t go down at low as a cent), and as it matures it works it way up until its sprouting notes, which increase in denomination as the money-blooms mature, or do you need a whole separate plant to sprout the five dollar notes and the ten? Is the money it sprouts the leaves or the ‘flowers’, and if it comes in the form of the flowers, what are the leaves? Deposit slips? Cheque books?

I, for one, think that it is a thought entirely worthy of pondering. I think I might come up with a whole philosophy regarding it given enough time to ponder. Pondering is fun.

What to do if faced with a Zombie Jeebus.

Zombie Jeebus version 2 - with a touch of colour and a catchy line <img src='http://katjohnston.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_razz.gif' alt=':P' class='wp-smiley' />

Not a ‘new’ picture, but an extension on the one from yesterday. Lets face it, Zombie Jeebus just rocks, so I had to give him a touch of colour to make him seem more alive. Wait… is that right? Something seems wrong with that previous statement. Well, that aside, ya gotta admit, he does look good for a dead man.

So… what should I write to go with this picture? I kinda covered a lot of it yesterday, so today, I’m just going to cover a couple of extra bits and pieces.

First off, the second coming of Christ is not going to be some divine event where a beam of light peeks through the clouds, with the sound of violins and bluebirds chirping in the trees with the Lord our savior descending with arms outstretched. Keep an eye out at zombie flash mobs. Far more likely. Zombie Jeebus likes to be among his own kind – the sorta-not-really undead.

If you have a Zombie Jeebus chasing you, do not pray. I repeat, do not pray! Zombie Jeebus has a direct tap into the devine phone-line, so if you’ve just found an awesome hiding spot, don’t give it away. Pray, and you become a big fat blip on his radar again. Do you really want to be a blip?

Try to remain calm, and don’t get Zombie Jeebus mixed up with other supernatural entities, like vampires. It has not been tested (that I know of), but showing him a crucifix and flinging holy water on a Zombie Jeebus may actually even -increase- his power. Do you really want to risk it?

In the end, you just have to face the fact that its all one big fat conspiracy. There’s a zombie, a ghost, and a voodoo master who makes people outta clay running the show. That’s who we have in the big house upstairs. If horror movies are anything to go by, that’s probably not a good combination.

Ok, that’s all folks!

Physics: Its More of a Guideline than a Law…

Kat Johnston - No matter how big the sub, I can consume it.

Just a quick sketch today, drawn because I felt like relating a little story about last night. Yes, very rough sketch, with even rougher colouring, but it is the way I feel like drawing today *laughs*.

Last night, my partner and I went and got Subway for dinner. His sub is usually consistant of a meat of some variety, onions, jalapenos, olives and perhaps capsicum (bell peppers, for the unintiated) or pickles. I tend to get a meat of some variety, then everything but the carrot (can’t be greedy now, can we?).

We were watching as the guy was making our sandwiches – James’s as usual, was rather slim… mine needed a crane to get the top part of the breadroll shut. What can I say? I like to get my money’s worth, and I adore lots of salad on my sub.

When we got home, James tucked into his as I struggled to work out how to get the darn thing into my mouth. He went for his usual banter along the lines of ‘That is huge… I’m surprised the guy could even get the thing closed. It goes against all the rules of physics. I’m surprised the world didn’t implode when he was finally able to lever everything inside there enough to get that top bit of bread down.’

My response? ‘Well… Physics isn’t all that much of a rule really, is it? More of a guideline than a law, when you think about it…’ *grin*

Thought that was the end of it, but I got home today to find that he had changed his msn messenger by-line to say “Physics: Its more like a guideline than a law!”

FYI: I am aware that physics is really not all that guideline-ish. I just like pressing James’s buttons because he is an old science geek.

Oh Dear, Dear, Dear…

Kat Johnston - Susan seems a little worried by something...

Ok, here we go, another picture for today… one request, one ‘this is just what I happened to be drawing today’. Perfect!

Not quite sure what to say about her though… Her name is Susan. Not a lot to go by, is it? *laughs*

Requested: Its not a mess… Its art.

Kat Johnston. Don't you just wish you could do this to a room? So much fun!

Tara gave me the word ‘clean’… here is my response. Its not a mess. Its art. Or is it? Well, I guess that is up for interpretation! *laughs* Let me just say that if I did this one in my studio, I think I’d get rather a rap on the knuckles for it… but wouldn’t it be nice? Just to be able to go completely nuts once in a while and toss paint around wherever you wish? Ahhh, thus are the limitations of renting…

So I’m going to leave open this idea of people leaving requests alongside comments… I’ve even created a new little page outlining this oh-so-difficult process. So come on, give me a word, or a set of words… a passage from a book, a quote, a link to a photo or a cartoon… anything. I’ll throw together a picture in response, and put it up for your viewing pleasure, along with whatever other piece of sketching goodness I do throughout the day in another post. Any comments, leave a request along with it… and perhaps I’ll do it! Isn’t the internet great?
