Sketch: Just a quick sketch for today… I’m working on something cute.

I’ve been working on something incredibly cute for the past day, so I’m going to put up this for now, and save the extra cuteness for later!

Here… let me give you a hint. It involves a legendary mythical creature, cuteness, scissors and something I’ve already shown at least once on the site.

Buuuut for today… just a little red scribble-portrait. As I’ve mentioned before, I enjoy playing with different pens and things – a scribble portrait in a traditional ball-point pen is always going to have a different feel from something done in a bright red ink pen. I find it incredible just how much the medium can affect the outcome.

That’s all for today – there’s cute stuff on the horizon!

Sketch: If Pigs Had Wings.

Whenever you’ve taken a break from blogging, it really does feel as if you should apologize for being gone so long. I would, but I’ve been so sick and busy of late, that it was kinda unavoidable. I have had colds, flus, tonsillitis and lord only knows how many instances of ailments over the past few months. Not to mention a few little computer troubles… How annoying!

It is time to get back into the swing of things, don’t you think?

So here is today’s sketch. It’s a pig! It has wings! It is cute as can be, and was sketched along with a few other pigs on a folded over piece of paper.

His name is Fauntleroy Montgomery the Third, and he loves peppers. He is also the only pig he knows that happens to have little wings sprouting from his back!

Sketch: She is Adored.

I had no idea what to call my sketch today, so it is now known as ‘She is Adored’. I’m not entirely sure why, but it seemed right nonetheless.

My button badge press arrived yesterday, and I am stoked! I have already made up a few (which were quickly snapped up by my sisters), and the machine worked perfectly. It is a good, sturdily constructed unit with replaceable dies, so later on down the track I can simply purchase the additional die sets to be able to make a wider range of sizes. Tis convenient, don’t you think?

I have a feeling I’m going to be digging through any images that might work well in a round format some time very soon.

This morning, however, I am doing a little more product browsing. I’m looking to get a colour inkjet that produces superior quality prints with maximum colour-fastness and longevity. In addition to the button press, I have some other fun items I’ve ordered which will require printed materials. As such, I’d like anything I make to really stand up really well to the test of time.

Phew… wish me luck.

Sketch: Panda! It’s a panda!

So here is a quick panda I drew for a friend of mine, Andel Rhiadra! I asked her what I should draw today; I am not surprised that ‘panda’ was the answer. She is obsessed. I think if she could have a pet panda, it wouldn’t take long until she stole one from the zoo and set it up with some bamboo in the guest room, with much fawning and petting. I’m not even sure if a panda would let its kidnapper pet it… but… I’m sure she’d try!

Today, alas, is more studio/house cleaning, along with much-needed work on my site. I know that nothing can be seen of it yet, but things are a’changin’! So far though, it has been upgrading and updating all the back-end stuff before getting to the fun things. No point in painting a house all pretty if it is going to fall down in the next gust of wind, right? Right.

One of the things that I’ve updated which will have an immediate effect on those visiting the site is that I have installed a captcha device on comments. I know it is a pain, but my spam filters are getting hundreds of comments trapped in them per day… and it is just way too much effort to try and go through them all to sort out if any are legitimate comments. I know it is an extra half-step, but I hope it doesn’t bother you too much.

If someone could post a legitimate comment to test it out, that would be awesome. If it continues to deter spam postings, perhaps I can turn off the need to manually approve comments altogether! Yay!

Sketch: Time for another owl.

Kat Johnston: Little Chester is an excited little owl!

Surprisingly enough, ‘sketches for owls’ is one of the most popular search-terms people use to lead them to this site. Considering that I have not done a sketch of an owl in quite a while for here, something a little more current in the owl category certainly could not go astray, right?

Thus, I bring you Chester. Chester is an owl. He is also very excited.

I’m honestly not all that sure about what it is that Chester appears so excited about, but I am sure it is something good!

Oh wait… I think I know what it is after all… you see, I’ve decided that after having the site as it is for a year, it is time that I started giving it the attention it deserves and do a redesign of it. So, uh, yeah… keep tuned! Sorry this is just a short post today, but I have to get to work. Phew.
