  • Survey: What do you think of me?

Update: 21 responses so far! We’re over the 20-person mark, can we get it to 25? Please get as many people involved as you can, I’ll update the number as we go. Regular entries are still being posted just under this one. This survey reminder will just remain at the top of the page until October 3rd – extending it out a touch longer for responses from Articulate! Thanks QUT!

This survey helps with my major assignment. At the very least, all I need is three words you can think of to describe me, based on your impressions of my web-presence online (perhaps reading through some of my posts or checking out the ‘Find me on’ list to the right will help, if you can’t think of anything straight away), though I would also love it if you would care to elaborate.

More info about the survey (if you want it) after the cut.

  • Buttons. His name is Buttons.

Kat Johnston Sketchbook - they just keep on coming, don't they? Well... at least they keep me entertained...

Today’s littlest sketch-book page. His name is Buttons. I have no idea why. Cute little mite, isn’t he?

Only read on if you want to be bored with my ranting… I’m in a ranting mood today.

So, I am all alone at home today, kept company only by my two self-serving cats who are quite happy to ignore me all day, so long as I’m not walking to the kitchen (Oh my, she means food doesn’t she? Dinner time? Now? Now!) or laying down somewhere. Apparently I make an excellent cat-cushion. Lolita is the worst of the two in that way – if I’ve popped upstairs to shut my eyes for a few moments, she’s often only a few seconds behind me. She waits until I am nice and settled, drifting off into blessed unconsciousness, before bouncing up, purring like a mack truck, and batting my nose with a paw to get pettings. Cheeky little wench.

Penny, meanwhile, has set up camp in the closet for the day, making entirely sure that all my black clothing (which accounts for most of my clothing, by the way) is suitably exposed to as much of her cream-coloured cat fur as possible. Isn’t she sweet? I think I’d better put another lint-brush on the shopping list

Darling hubby is away for a few days doing something or other. Him calling home to say ‘oh sweetie, I have to bring you here, the beach is just beautiful!’ isn’t helping either. I’m seriously considering glaring at him from here with my laser-eyes-of-doom and seeing what affect it has on him. Meanwhile, I’m stuck writing assignments and glancing wistfully towards my bed, counting down the hours until I can retire to it without feeling incredibly guilty that I haven’t gotten more work done during the day.

Just on a side-note, I’ve just joined Digg (about time!) and discovered this when browsing through some of the items on there. I laughed out loud. I think you might also. So check it out, safe for work, I promise!

Please feel free to Digg any of my posts, just click to enter into the post itself and down the bottom is a ‘share this’ button. Click, and go to town!

  • Announcement: I appeal to you for help.

Some may be aware, and others not, that I am utilizing this website for my major project this semester. I’m looking at the concept of personal branding for creative practitioners within the visual arts field utilizing primarily web 2.0 technologies.

So, without going into too much further detail, I’d like to know what you would like to see here, or what I can do that you think might be a great way to promote this site. I’m still new to all this stuff, so I could really use your help to get my name, and my work, out there!

Please leave comments with any suggestions, thoughts, etc, and I’ll do what I can to build this into a site we can all enjoy. If you link to my site, or list it anywhere, I’d also like to hear about that too. Every little bit counts and I’d love to see people getting involved!

  • Hello World.

    \'Triumphant Warrior\' by Kat Johnston

My first post of this magnificent blog. Who ever thought that I would take this step? I never thought I would. However, there is no time like the present to move along with things and show the world what I do, even if it is silly little sketches in a lecture notebook.

I meant to wait to do this, until I had mastered doing my own themes for WordPress. Or perhaps I was more waiting for that perfect moment when I had a good body of work behind me: things that I could be proud of showing off to the world in a portfolio that was comprehensive and impressive. Instead, I’m going with the ‘no time like the present’ mentality and just getting on with it. Even if no-one ever peeks into this blog, at least it is something that might get me consistantly creating, even on those silly days when I hardly pick up a pen.

So… the very first piece is the one pictured above. Ballpoint pen, lined lecture note-pad and little more than a line of text from a digital story script – my little triumphant warrior was born. Mayhaps he was not the one to slaughter these impressive foes that lay beneath him, but he will certainly take the credit for the feat… so long as there is no-one else more worthy of the claim around to dispute it.
