  • Henry is a blob. But don’t think that that keeps him down!

Kat Johnston Sketchbook - He's Henry. He's smart. And he doesn't mind letting you know it too. Schemer, conniver and generally awsome blob, Henry just rocks.

Schemer, conniver, all-around awesome blob. Henry truly does just rock. Just because he wasn’t exactly blessed with legs doesn’t mean he’s a step behind; nay, for someone that can’t even really walk (more of a wobble, really), he always seems to be a few steps ahead, if anything. Anyhow, Henry here is my little sketch-book picture for the day (as if you couldn’t already tell). I love him. He’s cunning.

Just on a more personal note, my hair is back to being a nice shade of pink! Light pink, in case you were curious – the last colour was more of a hot reddish pink. Ohhh, it feels so good to have no regrowth again…

  • Buttons. His name is Buttons.

Kat Johnston Sketchbook - they just keep on coming, don't they? Well... at least they keep me entertained...

Today’s littlest sketch-book page. His name is Buttons. I have no idea why. Cute little mite, isn’t he?

Only read on if you want to be bored with my ranting… I’m in a ranting mood today.

So, I am all alone at home today, kept company only by my two self-serving cats who are quite happy to ignore me all day, so long as I’m not walking to the kitchen (Oh my, she means food doesn’t she? Dinner time? Now? Now!) or laying down somewhere. Apparently I make an excellent cat-cushion. Lolita is the worst of the two in that way – if I’ve popped upstairs to shut my eyes for a few moments, she’s often only a few seconds behind me. She waits until I am nice and settled, drifting off into blessed unconsciousness, before bouncing up, purring like a mack truck, and batting my nose with a paw to get pettings. Cheeky little wench.

Penny, meanwhile, has set up camp in the closet for the day, making entirely sure that all my black clothing (which accounts for most of my clothing, by the way) is suitably exposed to as much of her cream-coloured cat fur as possible. Isn’t she sweet? I think I’d better put another lint-brush on the shopping list

Darling hubby is away for a few days doing something or other. Him calling home to say ‘oh sweetie, I have to bring you here, the beach is just beautiful!’ isn’t helping either. I’m seriously considering glaring at him from here with my laser-eyes-of-doom and seeing what affect it has on him. Meanwhile, I’m stuck writing assignments and glancing wistfully towards my bed, counting down the hours until I can retire to it without feeling incredibly guilty that I haven’t gotten more work done during the day.

Just on a side-note, I’ve just joined Digg (about time!) and discovered this when browsing through some of the items on there. I laughed out loud. I think you might also. So check it out, safe for work, I promise!

Please feel free to Digg any of my posts, just click to enter into the post itself and down the bottom is a ‘share this’ button. Click, and go to town!

  • Today’s sketch is a little topsy-turvy.

Kat Johnston Sketch - Upside down? Who's odd idea was that for a joke? I feel like Blackboard should be here saying 'hurry up, hurry up...'

Today’s little sketch is… upside-down? Not my fault, I swear! I drew the eyes and they just came out that way. I was listening to music from Moulin Rouge, and a (seemingly) random selection of classic French tunes as I was drawing this little lady. I don’t know why I feel the need to mention that, but I think it might be significant somehow.

You know… I love my hubby, I really do. But he can be an evil man at times… I think that is one of the reasons I do love him so incredibly much.

We went shopping yesterday, for a few new shirts for him. I was able to pick up a couple of hooded tops for myself while we were at it – one incredibly over-sized, incredibly comfy olive-coloured one for lounging around the house in… and one nicely-fitted black creation that has a cute little set of buttons to one side of the collar, so that it can be worn with a high collar or v-neck. I put the black one on again as soon as I got home to show off to my loving spouse, since he didn’t get to see it on me in the shop.

I threw it on with a long black skirt, as the one I was wearing didn’t show it off quite to best effect. I plonked down the stairs and did a twirl for him… to which he said ‘Pull up the hood for me?’. I obediently pulled up the hood for him, so that he could see what it looked like – to which he responded ‘now all you need is an apple…’

Horrid man. Do I look as if I go around poisoning young princesses who board with miner dwarves in the middle of enchanted forests? I think not! I’d make sure the job got done right the first time round…

  • My Saving Grace.

Kat Johnston Sketchbook - these sketches are odd, yet I am still fascinated with the characters they are creating... what is her story?

Another ‘littlest sketch-book’ post, with another odd little creature coming forth from naught but a pair of eyes… I want to know what her story is. I haven’t quite been able to latch onto what it is yet… Neither do I understand her name of ‘My Saving Grace’, but the title floated down and settled upon her like a mantle before I had but a second’s say in her naming.

But I suppose if this little sketch-book is going to contain creatures just drawn organically without a second thought, I had best respect that along with their own form, they may dictate their names without my interferance either. Its only a fair exchange for allowing me to capture them on the page, is it not? Well… I think so. Ok… I’m off to properly start the day. Hopefully there is enough time to scootch to the markets and buy the best hot chocolate in town before they shut up shop for the day.

  • Yet Another Little Sketchbook Post.

Kat Johnston Sketchbook - Tentacles, are they? I seem to have an odd fascination with tentacles... who knows why... childhood trauma, perhaps?

Another little sketch-book post today… I’ve decided that I have to start with a set of eyes on each page (the cute big round ones that make me go ‘awww’ or ‘eeee!’) then go from there. Eyes are always a good place to start, in my opinion. From there on in, the rest is just whatever my poor feeble brain tells me to do… until it looks right. Or right-ish. Sorta right? Well… close enough. Each time I do a little drawing in this sketch-book, I’ll throw it up, bad, good, or just plain weird. Unless you don’t want me to. In which case, I will keep the evidence of my psychosis to myself. And my apparent obsession with tentacles…

I’ve added a new category for the posts with these sketch-book images, rather unoriginally named ‘Sketch-Book’. Who said I’m not inspired?

Just a quick note to Steve, who sent a request through my private-super-awesome-hotline (the contact page), thanks for the request, am working on it, and will post it soonish.
