  • Sketch: Killer Cookies!

Kat Johnston Sketch: My cookies KILL when I take them to parties...

Rarr! I’m a cookie ninja! Fear my chocolate bullets of utter destruction!

I’ve been having a great time throwing together cute coloured joke-sketches for my Facebook Page. I figure it is a nice way to add a little fun to peoples’ feeds, and hopefully bring a smile to someone’s face in the process. That said, I assume that not everyone loves puns as much as I do.

Wait… that would be silly. Puns are awesome.

  • Guest Spot: Someone else likes cthulhu too!

A special guest spot, for our daring cthulhu!

After posting the ‘sorta paper-craft, but really dodgy’ post just before, a glorious girl I know decided to print it out and colour it in. Here is the result. If you are curious to see more from my dashing friend, check out her blog here! Her awesome colouring in is posted with permission, because I’m just awesome like that.

If you print out and colour little cthulhu here, or any of my pics, really, let me know! I might just post them to the site if you provide me with a copy. Oh dear… I think it’s almost getting to the point where Cthulhu needs its own category. Heaven forbid!

  • Body Art: Hearts and gears and bunnies, oh my!

Kat Johnston Body Art: This is what happens when I get given a body to work on, and a packet of prettily coloured sharpies.

Finally! Finally I get to play around properly with prettily coloured sharpies… all over someone’s back. Started with the heart and went out from there. It grew!

I’m actually really loving playing around with sharpies on people doing these ‘sorta not really permanent marker tattoo’ thingies. It took a little bit to get used to the way the coloured sharpies work and blend, but I think I’m starting to get the gist of it. When given the chance, I think I have a far better idea of how I’m going to draw a phoenix on a certain someone – though they’ll have to give me a bigger area to work with this time! Please?

In celebration of working with pretty pretty markers, I’ve created a new category for such things, entitled ‘Body Art’. That way they don’t just get thrown straight into the ‘Sketches’ category and that’s it. I figure that my friends will lend me forbearance for a while longer to draw all over them, so there is a fairly decent likelihood that I might post more pictures of them here. Yay for friends who tolerate my eccentricities!

I think that’s about it for today… enjoy the picture, and I’ll see you tomorrow. Phew!

  • Sketch/Digital: Little Bird

Kat Johnston Sketch: Sketched, then digitally coloured in, it’s a bird on a string!

It got to about 8pm when I thought ‘oh dear, I really do need to do a sketch for the site today, don’t I?’ So I started sketching, and came up with this. There’s actually a whole lot more room in the little square that I’m drawing inside of, but for something different, I thought I might add just a touch of colour in photoshop after I’d scanned it in. Better a small image for now then!

I actually really like it. It could be coloured in a whole lot better and all, but it was really done that was just because it was quick and easy to do – it’s more about the ‘feel’ of it than absolute accuracy and perfection. I might do the whole square this way, should I get around to actually finishing it at some point. If I do, I’ll certainly post a picture here for you to see it.

Anyhow, that’s about it today. Tomorrow I have to go off and get an ultrasound done on my knee (it’s being mean to me!) then possibly get a gigantic needle stuck into it. Cross your fingers that no gigantic needle is required, ok? I really don’t like them, and I have to walk home. I’d perfer not to have to do it hobbling, thank you very much!

  • And she wore a fishbowl on her head…

A cute little girl with a fish bowl on her head. Fun, huh?

Yesterday a bird, today a fish… I’m considering something else for tomorrow. A rat? I like rats… perhaps a headdress made entirely of itty bitty flies, all delicately perched on elaborately woven strands of hair twisted and tortured and sprayed into perfect place. Yay for animal couture!

I don’t actually suggest that anyone try to balance a fishbowl with a hairband – one would have to have absolutely fantastic balance to ensure that the fish were not endangered by the moving. I also think that one would also have to consider that having real sand in the bottom might not be the best idea, with every little partial nod disturbing it… Hell, considering that they don’t even like you tapping on the glass in aquariums, lets just face it: this is not a good idea. That said, it does kinda look cool!

I had a little time, since this was initially drawn last night, therefore I did a quick little colouring for it, just for kicks. Nothing too fancy, just a few minutes this morning after coming downstairs to see that the lower half of the house had been partially flooded. There’s major storms in Brisbane at the moment and the house we live in doesn’t appear to be entirely water-tight when assulted by pelting after pelting of summer storm rains. That said, however, I would much rather have half a lounge-room of wet carpet over some of the devastation visited on other parts of the city. Hey, gotta see the fun side of it, huh? My carpet currently goes ‘squish’ when you walk from one side of the room to the other.
