  • Sketch: She is Adored.

This darling sketch was drawn between researching printers for best quality prints.

I had no idea what to call my sketch today, so it is now known as ‘She is Adored’. I’m not entirely sure why, but it seemed right nonetheless.

My button badge press arrived yesterday, and I am stoked! I have already made up a few (which were quickly snapped up by my sisters), and the machine worked perfectly. It is a good, sturdily constructed unit with replaceable dies, so later on down the track I can simply purchase the additional die sets to be able to make a wider range of sizes. Tis convenient, don’t you think?

I have a feeling I’m going to be digging through any images that might work well in a round format some time very soon.

This morning, however, I am doing a little more product browsing. I’m looking to get a colour inkjet that produces superior quality prints with maximum colour-fastness and longevity. In addition to the button press, I have some other fun items I’ve ordered which will require printed materials. As such, I’d like anything I make to really stand up really well to the test of time.

    Phew… wish me luck.

  • Sketch: So glad you made it!

Kat Johnston Art: Jenny is ever so glad that you were able to make it, mum!

    Hi Mum!

So this may well be the first time that my mother has sat down and read through some of my blog. If she decides to go through post by post, she’s going to be reading for quite a while. When this post is finished, it will be number 347! That, to me at least, is a lot of posts!

Oh, and don’t worry, Mum… Jenny is just pretending to be sour. She isn’t really.

That got me to thinking – what is my mother going to think? What is she going to be faced with, assuming that she has at least a brief look through all 347 posts?

Flies. She’s going to be faced with flies. And faces. And owls, and rats, and most definitely bunnies, too. There will be dandelions, daydreams, and random musings on characters which have only really ever existed in my head and on the piece of paper scanned in for that particular post. She’ll even be faced, on more than a couple of occasions, with Jenny. Honestly, I think she’s going to come to the conclusion that I am quite random indeed!

Does your mum read your blog?

  • Sketch: Interesting Bedfellows.

Kat Johnston Art: Interesting bedfellows, don’t you think? Everyone is different though – what is tragic to one is simply beautiful to another.

Taking another turn today – we’re back to the ‘Masked’ series for a moment. Yes, I’ve decided that they’re a series. I don’t know where they’re heading, but I am absolutely loving drawing them, therefore they are a series. I mean… two pictures is a pair, three becomes at lease a set, and this is number four… so it definitely counts as a series, I think!

As you can probably tell by the last one as well, I am starting to work in a couple of my little obsessions… I wonder which little obsession will come next?

  • Sketch: Good morning… a rant about paint.

Kat Johnston: Oh my… what gorgeous girly pigtails you have!

It feels too early in the morning, but I have a feeling that that has come from a combination of little sleep, and the fact that I’m about to get my house invaded by painters. Not the fun, creative, interesting types either… the types that just paint walls, and paint them all the same boring shade of pale cream. Not that pale cream is a bad thing, mind you, but I do tend to think that it is somewhat overused in every bloody rental property known to mankind. No, wait, I lie… that horrid, horrid shade of pale peach tends to stretch the boundaries of colour-love when it is plastered on every room in a place too. Same goes for pale blue – and I actually do regularly like pale blue!

With that said though, I have to say, annoying though it may be to always be surrounded by these particular colours (though I have been lucky enough not to have to live in a ‘peach’ house yet), I would prefer them over some of the ungodly alternatives. I’m not sure who exactly advised some of the people out there about how to decorate, but really… a splash of colour should not have to equal DIY disaster. Unless you are really good at sponging, and know what you’re doing, for god’s sake, don’t sponge! Don’t decide to do an entire room of faux marble paint effect on the wall unless you’ve practiced beforehand! And seriously, just because someone showed you how to do it on TV does not mean that you are going to be able to replicate it perfectly in your own rental property.

Now if you like experimenting in your home, go to town – your home is your home, and you have to live in it and love it… and possibly correct it if it all goes wrong. But I am still stunned at the amount of rental properties on the market that are, in my opinion, not fulfilling their potential (both in appearance, and the resulting long-term earnings) for lack of a few weekends of work and a few hundred bucks worth of paint. Cream all over might be boring, but at least it isn’t bright yellow with uneven white sponging and bright blue trims through the whole damn house.

That is all. This somewhat-rant has been bought to you by the Kat Johnston Society Against Ugly Rental Properties. I just want the damn rooms painted: I need to get those boxes out of my studio so that I have room to move again!

  • Update and Sanu: Another new hair… and integration.

Sanu Stuff: Another new hair style, Anayla. Slim and refined at the front with an elegant piled look at the back.

Another hair is up at the store, the Anayla. I could write about it, but pictures really do say what words cannot. Anyhow, that is not the main reason I am writing this post.

Although I know it is going to be some measure of work, I have decided to integrate the Sanu and regular photostreams. Since the creation of the Sanu flickr account, my main one has sat relatively untouched. Since I have made moves to integrate both Sanu and art related things into the one blog, I’ve also decided to do so with the flickr accounts. For that matter, I’ve decided to start actually using the account for my artistic stuff, which is something I have neglected to do for quite some time. Sooooo… expect me to start putting my blog images onto the account. It’ll take a while, but it’ll get there! I’m going to start from day one, and just see it all the way through.

On that note, the old Sanu account will remain active and I will not be pulling down the images from that account to put them on the new one. Not at this point, in any case. Phew! That’s all for now. Please update your contacts and start checking out the new stream! The button to the right will now take you directly to the Kat Johnston/Sanura Sakai stream… no need to look up the separate addy for Sanu.
