  • Sketch: Would you like McSurgery with that?

Kat Johnston Sketch: What does it say about surgeons that they're willing you chop you open for no real reason?

Ok, I’ll admit it… I shelved this post for a few days because I was just feeling too ranty when I was first going to post it.

Long story short, I recently had a bit of surgery (I made it!) and then had a follow-up appointment where I was offered… more surgery. Frivolous surgery, even. Surgery with questionable actual benefit, a long recovery time and that was of absolutely no necessity (at least at this point). Needless to say, I decided to reply with a nice, firm ‘No!’

    So yeah! Today’s picture is of a chop-happy surgeon… a chop-happy surgeon with a stethoscope.

  • Sketch: Interesting Bedfellows.

Kat Johnston Art: Interesting bedfellows, don’t you think? Everyone is different though – what is tragic to one is simply beautiful to another.

Taking another turn today – we’re back to the ‘Masked’ series for a moment. Yes, I’ve decided that they’re a series. I don’t know where they’re heading, but I am absolutely loving drawing them, therefore they are a series. I mean… two pictures is a pair, three becomes at lease a set, and this is number four… so it definitely counts as a series, I think!

As you can probably tell by the last one as well, I am starting to work in a couple of my little obsessions… I wonder which little obsession will come next?

  • Sketch: All Masked Up

Kat Johnston Sketch: She holds a mask before her face, so one and t’other can be barely told apart…

Another sketch in the same sort of vein as yesterday’s – this time with a mask instead of just make-up. Once again, I am rather happy with the result!

It is nice to return to a style you have dropped for a little while. As I was mentioning yesterday, I tend to go through phases – scribbley and loose at some points, clean and precise at others… sometimes rough, sometimes smooth, and often a combination of the two. I haven’t kinda sat down and done more ‘precise’ (yes, I did that in inverted commas because this is not precise in a traditional sense) sketching in a while… it’s nice. Frustrating at times, but nice.

  • Sketch and Sanu: Masks… and Spring.

[image title=”Kat Johnston Sketch: All masked up… but where to go? I’m not sure that a masquerade ball is an every-day occurance.” size=”large” id=”1631″ align=”center” alt=”Kat Johnston Sketch: All masked up… but where to go? I’m not sure that a masquerade ball is an every-day occurance.” linkto=”viewer” ]

Phew! It has been a rather long day, really… running around, buying obscure Japanese and other Asian candy, finding melon mochi, and getting scolded for (yet again) buying something where the package doesn’t explicitly state what I’ll find inside (it had grapes on the packaging, somewhere… surely whatever is inside is somewhat grape flavoured, one would hope). The hubby has come up with this silly rule that I’m not meant to buy something when I don’t actually know what it is.

I, for one, think it makes life interesting.

Ok, so you might end up throwing away bits and pieces. Basil Seed Drink, for example, is not for everyone (it said on the package what it was, so I was allowed to get it… I still haven’t gotten up the courage to try it though). Isn’t that the point though? You try something… you see how it is… and even if you throw it away, you’re that much more experienced because of it.

At the very least, you have a great story to tell somebody in how absolutely weird and not-so-wonderful this random food item was. Worth the investment? Provided you’re not blowing a fortune on food whose packages can only be interpreted in another language… I think so.

Sanu in Second Life: As if a summer skybox wasn’t enough… here’s one to celebrate Spring. It even comes with flowers, because we all know that flowers are fun!

And now for the Sanu update! I thought that there was really no point in doing two separate posts, so I’m rolling them both into one today.

This is my latest skybox – a Spring themed piece designed to match nicely to the Summer Daydreams Skybox I released a while back. You know that I’m going to have to do Autumn and Winter now that I’ve done both a Spring and a Summer – it just makes sense! That may have to wait for another day though.

    That’s all for today!
