  • Sketch: A hand-written tweet.

Kat Johnston – oh my, what is that? A handwritten tweet? How bout that!

So a person I follow on Twitter (@StraightEdge_, in case you were wondering) sent out a question: What to do to celebrate his 1000th tweet. I made a suggestion – do some ‘real life’ tweeting. In other words, do a drive-by to a few people’s places (hopefully your friends, who are also on twitter) and leave a hand-written 140 character or less message taped/pinned/stuck to their door to find later on. A step up from that, would be to leave little 140 character note in a loved one’s purse/wallet/etc, just letting them know just how much you love them… or something like that, anyway.

Thus, with that thought in mind, I thought I might take my own advice. With a humble tweet-count of 775 (a fair bit yet off 1000, not that a good weekend of typing wouldn’t bump up my total), I figure it wouldn’t hurt to give it a go anyway, don’t you think? So here we go… this post today, is the last tweet I did (as of this second, and it isn’t actually reproduced verbatim), with a little quickie illustration to go alongside it, just for fun! My twitter-stream seems to mostly consist of rather random nonsense, questions as to why I am so tired some of the time, and celebrations of whatever tasty tidbit of food I might have at hand.

So anyhow, yes… a tweet with a ‘traditional’ touch… still 140 characters or less, but written by my own hand instead of typed out on a computer. Writing by hand is just different from tippity-tapping on a keyboard, isn’t it? Well… I think it is anyway. Besides, I like my handwriting!

  • Tweeting.

Kat Johnston Sketch – I’m a little bird, twitter tweet, twitter tweet.

Sometimes I wonder whether I should even post anything when the pictures are as pointless as this one… but I said a sketch a day (or more accurately, a creative product a day), so its going up anyway. No long post today, just a shortie. I was woken this morning to my cat snuggled up on my stomach going ‘pet me, pet me’, but as soon as I started obeying she jumped up, pushed through the blinds and started stalking birds through the glass. When she does this… she makes a little ‘ne-ne-ne-ne-ne’ sort of noise. I’ve wondered why she does this on more than one occasion, but I think I’ve finally figured it out.

She’s trying to be a bird. She’s ‘tweeting’ to lure them into thinking, against all logic that she is, in fact, a bird. ‘Come here, little birdies’ she cries, in response to their lovely bird-song, ‘Come here and get in my belly – it’s warm. You can join the chicken.’ Well, that’s what I imagine her doing anyway. I can just so picture her in my mental eye, too, having a pair of badly hand made paper wings complete with construction cardbard and visible sticky tape (lets face it, it can’t be that well made by a creature without opposible thumbs) stuck on her back with a bit of twine and a cone of yellow paper on elastic around her muzzle for a pretend ‘beak’. I am going to have to draw that… but another day.

And… for a comedic break… I hope she doesn’t mind me ‘retweeting’ this on a grander scale… I’ve changed names to protect the innocent:

Me: got the blue hair dye… now just need to dye my hair ;P

Her: Ooh do it! I’ve been black since Tuesday but now I’ve to take a picture for online mates. Not so photogenic yet though!

Her: Note: That last tweet is in regards to black hair, nothing else.

It just goes to show really… context is everything!

  • Announcement: All A-twitter and now on Flickr.

Kat Johnston - Flies are flies and they fly most flyfully... that makes no sense.

Three pictures of flies in a row, and I can tell that it is starting to become a mini-obsession… but that is generally the way it is, when I find something that tweaks my interest enough. It will grab me for a few days straight, then become a ‘regular’ obsession, to join all the rest. I don’t think that this picture is done… but I need to throw up something today, so this is it.

Just an update on the site and on me: I’ve added a twitter feed to the sidebar, so if you pop by throughout the day, you can see what I’m up to! Either that, or you can follow me on twitter itself – my username is KatJohnston, or just click here to see my current profile page.

I have also set up a Flickr account, and have uploaded two sets of photos taken of my wonderful city. You can find them here and here. I will be periodically adding to the Flickr photos and will update you as they become available.
